Una ola gigante para los mejores del mundo.
La octava jornada del ACC estuvo vibrante, la ola de un gran tamaño, algo así como unos 4 metros y los riders demostrando toda su técnica. Alrededor de 500 personas llegaron al borde costero de la ex Isla el Alacrán para llenar la playa de constantes aplausos y apoyo.
La jornada inició a las 8 de la mañana con la victoria del joven australiano Thomas Rigby con un puntaje de 17. 5 seguido por el defensor del campeonato mundial Uri Valadao quien obtuvo un 16.84. La siguiente manga se la llevo el Hawaiano Jeff Hubbard con 14.50.
La tercera manga continuó con la presentación del chileno Alexander Widtman quien no pudo ante Magno O. Passos de Brasil y Dave Hubbard de Hawai, a esta altura de la competencia, el gringo tomaba un gran tamaño, bordeando los 4 metros y medio, dejando sorprendidos a los más de 500 espectadores que asistieron a las octava jornada del evento.
La siguiente manga fue una de las más fuertes debido a lo estrecho de los puntajes y la potencia de la ola. Mark McCarthy se llevó este heat con un puntaje de 13.67, seguido de cerca por el australiano Brad Hughes que obtuvo un 11.83.
El heat seis de esta ronda tuvo como competidor a uno de los mejores exponentes de este deporte, Ben Player, quien junto al francés Pierre Louis Costes avanzaron a los octavos de final. Esta manga demostró la peligrosidad de esta magnífica ola, ya que Airem Cabrera experimentó la fuerza de El Gringo al quedar muy cerca de las rocas, lo que para tranquilidad de todos no le causó ninguna herida de gravedad y el Jetsky lo pudo sacar a tiempo evitando algún accidente.
Y ocurrió lo que todo el público esperaba, el estreno del campeón defensor del ACC, el brasileño Guilherme Tamega quien al iniciar esta manga entregó un excelente tubo lo que vaticinaba que podría ganar esta manga. Al final la obtuvo con un 14 exacto pero también probó la agresividad de El Gringo al herir su boca al realizar una maniobra.
La última manga fue liderada por el australiano Dave Winchester con un 15.50 dejando en el camino a su compatriota Michael Novy quien fue superado por el brasileño Francirley Ferreira con un puntaje de 12.67.
Chico Garritano, coordinador de jueces del evento, nos comentó que esta es el evento más importante del año, y que esta jornada fue increíble, llena de técnica y espectacularidad.
Mañana comienzan los men to men (hombre a hombre), en donde habrán duelos espectaculares como los de Jeff Hubbard y Uri Valadao, Ben Player y Mike Stewart, Mark McCarthy y Dave Hubbard. La cita es a las 7:30 de la mañana para otra vibrante jornada del mejor Bodyboard del mundo.

Day 8 ACC Contest goes XL
The ACC went XL today with conditions reading 12 ft out of the Southwest Direction. Round 6 Heat 1 saw youngster Tomas (mini rig) Rigby beat current World Champion Uri Valadao with a huge rollo to end the heat. Heat two saw Hawaii's Jeff Hubbard take down the field with Rene Xavier coming in close second . While Jeff was surfing his heat, Brother Dave (HI) entered the water but little did he know that it would be one of the most dangerous paddle outs in recent history. Almost getting pined against the rocks by an 8ft wave Dave said he wast stoke to make it out without injury and was able to calm himself enough to catch waves and progress into his next round.
In the same heat as David, Magno Oliveira (BRZ) was awarded the first 10 of the day and also gained the heat win with a massive roll coming straight off the bottom turn to the lip and into first place. Heat 4 round 6 was a difficult one with Ryan Hardy losing out to Mark McCarthy and Brad Huhges who both surfed consistent. Amaury Leaverne (FRN) had a great heat with big barrels against Mike Stewart (HI) who surfed solid as well with big rollos and was also stoked to watch his teammates progress in the other heats during the day! Next up was heat 6 where Ben Player and Peirre Louis Costes made it through with Big Roll combinations that made the all the difference to progress. Heat 7 was all about charging in the massive conditions and Guilherme Tamega excepted the Challenge and went to work on the tubing lefts that snuck through the closeout sets. Ivan Hernandez (CAN) following his lead was able to hit enough lips and land to progress as well. The final heat of the Day still had some great waves but the left seem to shut down due to the Westerly direction and Dave Winchester took note to this, rolling his was to the next round, while Francirley Ferre (Brazil) pulled big maneuvers on the inside to progress out of his hear.
